5 Tips for Dealing with Insurance Adjusters

So the unthinkable has happened: Disaster strikes your Florida home. The bad news? The house has sustained some major loss or damage. The good news? You have a home insurance policy that covers it, and you’ve decided to file a claim. The next thing you should expect is for the insurance company to dispatch their insurance adjuster to inspect your claim.

Most homeowners don’t expect disaster to strike until it’s happened to them, and they are then caught off-guard with the process of filing and going through the claims process. You don’t have to go through the confusing and complex process alone! Insurance companies look out for their bottom line and pay the minimum amount where they can (if at all), and they may seek to lower the amount they give you. Any which way they try to spin it, don’t sign any contract or agreements until you and your lawyer have read through all documents thoroughly.
  5. Follow up. The entire claims process can be frustrating, and insurance companies know this. Adjusters have multiple claims to inspect and may not get back to you as quickly as you expect. Knowing all of this, it is on you to follow-up with both the insurer and adjuster to ensure you are on top of your own claim.
